Hey guys, our idea changed…again.
After our group sessions, Mariana and I regrouped and decided to ask for the opinions of more classmates. Our good friend Samantha Duarte read our finished script about for our solidified idea. She brought a crucial component to our attention that completely flew by our head.
A film is composed of a 5 elements for the plot
- Exposition
- Rising action
- Climax
- Falling action
- Resolution
Our films script would only cover the first four, there is no resolution. It made us realize it made the ending feel unfinished. We were supposed to have Nati just leave Howie at the beach when she found out that he had a girlfriend the whole time. However, this idea is a close, but it feels like more closure must be added. SO, we decided to change add/take away from our concept once again. In order to make our film have all the plot elements, we decided to add seasons to the film. The film will open with summer, to fall, and lastly winter. The first three will be taking place in summer, as it sets the tone for most of the film (summer love gone wrong). The idea was that in Fall they see each other and Howie broke up with his girlfriend because he couldn’t stop thinking about Nati, while she moved on and has a boyfriend. We aren’t specifically sure about where they will see one another or how it’s going to go just yet. All we know is we want to show Nati and Howie making eye contact to build tension between the two. In Winter, we know they will see each other at a friend hangout, where he asks if she’s still with her boyfriend since he isn’t with her. Obviously, the’ve broken up and the reason is she never really liked her that much. From there, either they begin talking as one approaches the other or we end it at them saying hi to each other. We aren’t sure if we want to add the last season, due to the fact that it might be too long and even unnecessary. We’ve already shown them happy with one another, this will leave the audience wondering what will happen next, which is a concept much films carry or should carry.
Since we’re deciding to adopt this idea, I decided it’s important to research another film with the same or similar idea. This is because lighting, composition, and mise-en-scene elements change depending on the season. Researching a film will give me a visual representation of this, thus allowing me to gain inspiration.
It will be a longer plan that definitely involves more thought, but I believe it will be very successful!
