Identifying a target audience is crucial in a digital forms marketing, film elements, and promotion. This is why I’ve decided to do more research about our targeted audience.
Romance in action:

Romance movies have definitely widened in their target audience. My research has revealed that in older times, romance films were targeted more towards the older woman population. Now, however, due to multiple reasons romance films have become directed more towards younger generations, while still maintaining the older ones as well. It is said to be from 18-54, however, from what I know and have seen, I believe it extends from teenage girls as young as 13 to woman in their 60’s. I can personally infer this, due to the fact that my friends and I have been huge fans of romance films since middle school (12+) and my grandmother at age 61, is still fond of romance films. A big reason as to why newer generations like Gen Z are making their way into becoming the new target audience, is their passion for reading romance novels. Since covid 19, reading books have become much more common for young teenage girls. Some examples of these romance novels include, “It Ends With Us”, “The Summer I Turned Pretty”, and “Icebreaker.” Although not all, many of these novels have been turned into movies or shows. Of course, the teenage fan base would be lured into watching. Branching off of this, the algorithm of these viewers whether it be social media or streaming platforms, will present similar films to the one viewed. (Romance)
Moreover, social media has become extremely widespread and addictive, especially for newer generations like Gen Z. Since this is the case, the content given or shown to social media users, match what they enjoy. For instance, I love romance films but I never put anything pertaining to romance on my social media. One day, I saw a trailer on my feed and really enjoyed it. I then proceeded to research more about the film, as. The plot and actors intrigued me. I ended up watching the film with my friends that also enjoy romances. Ever since then, I’ve gotten multiple romantic quotes, movie trailers, and even more actors that have roles within these types of films. This occurrence most definitely happens to many people globally which further explains how newer generations can evolve into romance lovers.
Our target audience: Our audience for the short film will be 13-28, because our films conventions appeal more towards these ages. Its marketing and promotional aspects also attract more youthful ages.
